Landmark @ Chapel Hill Chauncy Hall

January 22, 2016

Landmark Wins! 39 Landmark -39 Chapel-Hill . How is that a win you might ask?l In wrestling there are no ties, so when the score is tied, the winner is determined through different criteria.

Criteria A is pins, which was also tiedIt got all the way to criteria I  before Landmark was determined the winner.

Before winter break we lost to Chapel-Hill 48-33, so this really was a complete team win, that took great effort from the whole squad. Here are some highlights...

Will Stevens got Landmark started with a pin via cradle. Then Mark Jaklitsch earned a big pin. Evan Kramich kept us going with a pin of his own. After some tough losses at 195lbs and 220lbs, Jake Diaco well past exhaustion to pin his opponent after being down 2-0 in the final period. Joe Macdonald then wrestled a really solid match but lost by points. Following a series of losses, Landmark had two wrestlers and were down by 9 points (Pin=6pts, Non-Pin Win=3pts). Jack Fuller was first, he outlasted his opponent in an epic back and forth battle to win 19-16. With Landmark down 6 points as a team, Adin Chapman stepped on the mat needing a pin to give Landmark a chance. He did just that, pinning his opponent in the 2nd period. Great team victory!

After all that Landmark had another match but luckily it had much less drama. Landmark beat Marianapolis Prep 42-24 mostly through forfeits.

Landmark @ Governor's Academy

January 20, 2016

The Wrestling team traveled to Governor's Academy yesterday to take on Governor's Academy and Phillip Exeter's JV team.

They came back with two very solid victories.

In the first meet of the day the Vikings were behind by 12 points against Exeter but then Aidan Chapman got the comeback started with a win. Followed by wins from Kevin Richardson and Mark Jaklitsch. Then with the match tied, Drew McNamee earned a clutch pin.

The outcome was never too in doubt during the second meet of the day against Governor's, as Landmark controlled the tempo in just about every match. Will (the thrill) Stevens looked particularly strong as he pinned his opponent with strength and technique. The same was true for Ryan (the body) Bottis as he pinned his opponent in the 2nd period. In the final match of the day, Evan Kramich stepped up to face Governor's top wrestler, and won a very strong match from start to finish.

Lastly, Cameron Flores wrestled his first career match but didn't stop there, as he wrestled 3 tough matches on the night.

Landmark vs Concord Academy

January 14, 2016

The wrestling team beat their rival Concord Academy yesterday 47-30 in front of a great and at times rowdy crowd in the gym. It was their best team performance of the year thus far and hopefully we can use it to springboard us to a strong last month of the season. In exhibition matches (non team scoring) Landmark was 5-3 with some fantastic performances all around.

Joey Mac continues to impress as he got Landmark started off with a Pin. Then Noah Benstock and Jack Fuller both wrestled well, but fell short to their more experienced opponents. At the 138lb weight class, Aidan Chapman overwhelmed his opponent with technique and strength with a first period pin. Kevin Richardson who is putting together a very impressive Senior season won again to improve his record to 11-5. Mark Jaklitsch won a hard fought match against a tough opponent. Drew McNamee picked up another pin after a few tense moments. After a strong start and a back and forth two periods, Evan Kramich lost to his old rival at 170lbs.

Landmark @ Hyde & Tilton

January 09, 2016

The Wrestling Team traveled to Bath, Maine this past saturday to take on Hyde and Tilton. At the end of the day, We went 1-1, beating Tilton and losing to Hyde 48-30.

Here are some highlights from the trip- Jack Fuller picked up his first victory via pin. Robby McDougall continues to improve and won by Pin as well. Evan Kramich weathered an early barrage from his Hyde opponent and ended up earning a pin in the 2nd period. And Jake Diaco wrestled tough in his first ever match.

Landmark vs Beaver Country Day & Lexington Christian Academy

January 06, 2016

The Wrestling team took on LCA and BCD(only 3 wrestlers) yesterday at home. There was a lot of support from the home crowd and we really appreciated it.

At the end of the day we beat BCD (mostly by forfeits) and lost to LCA 51- 28 which was an improvement over the 54-21 score the last time we faced LCA. So we're headed in the right direction.

There were many solid individual highlights, here are a few. Ryan Bottis used pure horse power and his patented backbridge cradle to start the day with a pin. Drew McNamee continues to improve everyday and pinned his opponent in the first period. Evan Kramich's opponent from LCA avoided the pin, but couldn't avoid a flurry of points that earned Evan a tech fall (15 point victory). Joseph McDonald did what he does best by pinning an LCA opponent. Jack (my arm's not broken) Fuller wrestled two tough opponents, losing a close second match. And in the last varsity match of the night Mark Jaklitsch used the rarely seen standing fireman'[s carry along with endless energy to earn a tech fall.

Landmark vs Beaver Country Day

December 09, 2015

Eleven members of the wrestling team went to Newton last night to take on an undermanned Beaver Country Day team. After many forfeits and a few hard fought matches we won 36-16.

Some highlights from the meet- Noah Benstock came up with a big win, pinning his opponent with an impressive half nelson. Riley Prokop earned a pin with his patented spiral half. Alex Foilb wrestledup a weight class to get his first win of the year. Matt Blundin showed off his raw power in his wrestling debut, but narrowly lost in the 3rd period.

Landmark @ Canterbury

December 12, 2015

Jake Cooper stepped into his first tournament since elementary school and went 3-1 with three Pins. Will Stevens went 3-2 on the day. Ryan Bottis utilized a devastating double leg take down to win his first match as a Viking.
