BOYS VARSITY BASKETBALL

Landmark vs Gann
January 11, 2016
Please congratulate the boys on their most recent victory yesterday against Gann Academy 61-49. Gann, a notoriously stubborn and scrappy team gave us almost more than we could. For a team that didn't have a player over 6'2" tall they really challenged us in all facets of the game. However, the boys stood tall!
Brennan Hill capped off one of his most dominant performances with 18 points, over 10 rebounds, several blocks and re-directions of shots. At the end of the game he demanded the ball and cashed in on some sweet jump hooks. Sharp shooting Max Olmsted led the charge with 26 points featuring a collection of 7 three-pointers.
With those two performances, I feel the most important one of the game came from senior Alex Loring as he hit the floor for loose balls, played hard defense down the stretch as well as making the play of the year, diving out of bounds to make a key over the head save to help us secure possession of the ball and ultimately the victory. Not to be overlooked, the guard trio of Pat Sullivan, Cooper Ozoonian and Cam Matthews shared in holding the other teams best player to 5 second half points after he exploded for 17 in the first.
The players on the bench went all in for their teammates as they led the crowd in chanting "DEFENSE"!! It was a game we showed a lot of growth as the team executed down the stretch while encouraging each other to have better clock management. That's actually what I am proud of most.

Tough loss at home to Pingree

Fairly certain this was a loss.

Landmark @ Pingree
December 14, 2015
At Pingree we played an awesome first 8 minutes of the game playing to a 14-14 standstill. With a couple of bad bounces and breaks we went into halftime 14-26. Still optimistic over the first half's effort we regrouped in the locker room but our optimism was not realized as we just couldn't find the bottom of the basket very often, ultimately bowing out 22-54. Among that disappointing result was a great deal of effort the highlight of which was several authoritative blocks by Brennan Hill.

Landmark vs Cambridge School of Weston (Charger Classic)
Saturday afternoon the boys continued to roll as we ended the championship game on top 57-32 over The Cambridge School of Weston. Again, the defense was extremely stout as we got out the gate fast. All players played many minutes and collectively we had a blast as many exciting hustle plays were made. Cam Lane-Matthews, although he didn't score a point, set a ferocious defensive tone. He was an absolute thief stealing a half-dozen balls resulting in multiple fast breaking baskets. We achieved these defensive feats without the aid of full court pressure. Additionally, after having a tough first half, Pat Sullivan came back to have his finest half of the season with many hard drives to the basket. He finished with 11 points while Max Olmsted led us with 16 and Gabe Stearns paced with 9 points.

Landmark vs International School of Boston (Charger Classic)
December 11, 2015
Friday night we squared off with The International School of Boston and prevailed 65-27. The game got off to a fast stop for the Vikings highlighted by Pat Sullivan finding Brennan Hill on the break for a thunderous slam dunk in the first half. That set the tone for a steady scoring attack and paired with a suffocating defensive effort, the Vikings were able to run away and hide. Max Olmsted led us once again with a quiet 22 points while Loren Morgan caught fire off the bench with three quick triples and Ryan Dumont paced with 8 points. Brennan Hill anchored to defense with a double figure rebounding performance and at least a half dozen blocks. Every player scored.

The Vikings suffered their first loss at the hands of Portsmouth Abbey, 44-50 in a heart breaker.

Landmark vs. Covenant Christian Academy
December 07, 2015
Thanks for all of you who were in attendance yesterday to see the gentlemen start their season with a sold win over Covenant Christian Academy 56-44.
The score was not indicative of how much control the boys exerted over the whole game. Landmark jumped out to a 25-7 lead in the first half and went in 30-16 by the intermission.
At the start of the second half with the starters reinserted and recharged Landmark jumped out to a 52-25 margin before resting the starting 5 and inserting all our players in for big minutes.
Max Olmsted led the charge with 27 points in limited minutes while Alex Loring chipped in with 9 points and some very strong defensive play. Brennan Hill controlled the paint with 6 points, double digit rebounds and a handful of blocks. Everyone on the roster played multiple minutes and contributed something positive to the effort.
